The Friends of the International Mathematical Union (FIMU) is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the activities of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). Established on July 17, 2008, FIMU is registered as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation in the State of Rhode Island, making donations from US taxpayers tax-deductible.
Mission
FIMU supports mathematics through financial administration and fundraising, ensuring that contributions from individuals and organizations are effectively directed toward advancing mathematical research, education, and global collaboration.
What We Support
FIMU oversees the financial management of several key mathematics funding programs, including:
- The Chern Medal Award, funded by the Chern Foundation and the Simons Foundation.
- Breakout Fellowships, enabled by contributions from the Breakthrough Prize winners.
- The GRAID Program, a recent initiative supporting mathematics education and research worldwide.
